Broadband comparison with dial-up connection reveals a far more superior infrastructure set-up with just a minimum difference in service rate or charge, making broadband the smarter and practical choice if both broadband and dial-up services are available.

Broadband wireless Internet is capable of delivering access speed anywhere from 64 kbps (kilobytes per second) to 1.0 mbps (megabytes per second). This is in contrast to the dial-up modem Internet service which requires a telephone line (wireline as opposed to wireless) with maximum access speed of only 56 kbps (kilobytes per second).

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) set a minimum 256 kbps to define “broadband” while in the US, the Federal Communications Commission has set the limit above 768 kbps to level up the definition of broadband given the rapid development in technology marketplace.

Broadband comparison can also be made based on the platform of delivery used. Pioneering broadband services utilized cable connections to deploy broadband services, followed by DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) which is now the standard mode commonly used for broadband service.
